Joe-Ann Watkins-Registered Psychotherapist
MACP, RP, BScN, RN (non practising), DSW
I’ve always had a sense that I would end up here. People used to tell me I should become a therapist, and deep down, I hoped they were right. Like many meaningful journeys, my path into this work was not a straight line.
I began my career in developmental services, supporting individuals with diverse needs, and later became a Registered Nurse after earning my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I worked across medical, mental health, and forensic settings, gaining a strong clinical foundation. What stayed with me most, though, were not the charts or procedures, but the quiet moments of connection — listening deeply, sitting with people in their pain, their hope, and their humanity.
Over time, that calling grew louder. I returned to school to complete my Master’s in Counselling Psychology and am now a Registered Psychotherapist. Today, my work is grounded in trauma-informed, attachment-based care, balanced with warmth, curiosity, and genuine human connection.
I believe therapy works best when it is real. I offer a safe space where clients can show up as themselves, and I meet them where they are. I bring my authentic self into the therapy room — professional and skilled, but also human. That can include warmth, honesty, and at times a gentle sense of humour. You will not find a polished or scripted version of me, but someone who is fully present, thoughtful, and engaged in the work we do together.
I am also a proud mom to two grown sons. Being their mother has taught me deeply about love, vulnerability, resilience, and repair — lessons that continue to inform my work in meaningful ways.
This work feels like home to me. It is not just what I do, but who I have always been — creating space for people to feel seen, supported, and able to move forward with greater clarity and self-trust.
